Shooting Stalking and Fishing
Shooting Stalking and Fishing is readily available throughout the area. Some of the most excellent shooting and stalking can be arranged through local shooting agents or help can be given by the syndicate who have shot on various estates in the area. For keen fishermen willing to pit their wits against true wild brown trout, there is a hill loch on the moor on which fishing can be rented with or without a boat.
Butterstone Loch, about 2 miles away, is a a properly stocked and managed trout fishery, with boats for daily hire. Salmon fishing is also readily available in the season, some of the best beats on the Tay being only 15 minutes away. Sea fishing can be arranged for a very modest price, at Montrose, about an hours drive away.
Golf
Golf in Perthshire is a way of life, with almost every town and village seeming to have its very own golf club. There are 29 courses in Perthshire, all available to visitors, and over 50 within about an hour's drive from the Lodge. Scottish golf courses are quiet, even in the summer, with low green fees.
The area boasts some of the most varied and spectacular scenery in Europe, on courses that will test beginners and experts alike. Some of the better known courses include St Andrews, Carnoustie, Montrose and Gleneagles. The lesser-known courses, the nearest being Dunkeld, should not be missed. Help can be given organising a golf holiday using the experience of previous guests.
Other amenities
Other amenities are plentiful in the vicinity of the Lodge, which is centred in the middle of a large tourist area. There is plenty to do regardless of age or interests. Perthshire is a paradise for walkers. From easy strolls around the local area to some of Scotland's most strenuous ascents. The ski slopes of Glenshee are only about 45 minutes drive away. The area is rich in wildlife not normally seen further south. Besides deer and game birds, red squirrels and ospreys can often be seen.
Children
Children are also well catered for. Besides the little local burns, ideal for fishing for small trout with a worm, and the general exploring of the local area, there is plenty to entertain whether the weather is wet or dry; pony trekking; local nature reserves and safari parks; local museums and castles; good swimming and ten pin bowling facilities; and theatres and cinemas.
